Bangladesh: Enthusiastic reception for George Galloway and Respect colleagues

December 1, 2009

A Tower Hamlets Respect delegation to Bangladesh including George Galloway MP and Councillor Abjol Miah has received an enthusiastic welcome.

The large group of East London visitors have met with a range of high-profile Bangladeshi politicians. Top of the agenda has been mobilising opposition to the construction of the planned Tipaimukh dam.

Alongside hundreds of Bangladeshi friends, the British delegation from Britain marched on Sunday from Sylhet city to the Bangladesh border with India.

“The potential impact on both depriving Sylhet of vital water and threatening serious flooding make this a ‘weapon of mass destruction’ aimed at the heart of Sylhet and the people of Bangladesh,” George Galloway said.
